| Welcome
to the web site of Palm Coast Podiatry.
|
Podiatry is the health profession that deals with the
examination, diagnosis and treatment of conditions and functions
of the human foot by medical and surgical methods.
Because many diseases are often first observed by symptoms in
the feet, a podiatrist is frequently called upon to point out
such disorders as diabetes mellitus, arthritis and circulatory
problems. With increasing numbers of people taking part in exercise,
sports medicine is now a big part of podiatry.
Podiatric training requirements are similar to those
for medical school. Podiatrists complete a basic college curriculum
before entering a four-year college of podiatric medicine. Science
courses in the first two years focus on the anatomy and physiology
of the lower extremity; the last two years focus on the prevention,
diagnosis, and treatment of foot, ankle, and related disorders.
Most podiatrists go on to post-graduate residencies.
